Day Eleven - Feb 10, 2024
Antigua, Guatemala
Daily Didactic
We rose at our typically leisurely time and headed to another area in the center for the well regarded (at least by the internet) Hector’s Deli. Behind a fancy sign on a non-descript wall was a beautiful courtyard and some very good breakfast. We had been concerned that a happening Saturday morning in the old town would limit our ability to loiter, but we need not be troubled. We ate, sipped coffee, and sipped more coffee for a few hours. Brian finalized the newly functional Funkymoose and Theresa turned her surroundings into artistic expression. Just before eleven we headed home for today’s adventure.
Brian has consumed an inordinate percentage of Cerverceria Catorce beers on this stay. They are just very good. They have a brewery a little beyond the next village, Ciudad Viejo. Photos suggest it is one part brewery, one part restaurant, one part event space. The internet say it’s worth the trip. As the journey is far beyond our walking distance, we called an Uber and (for $10) ended up with a pretty great drive through the countryside. The brewery was exactly what it was cracked up to be and would be a great place to see a show. There we found good beverages, amusing live music, and the free shuttle schedule for our return trip. A few hours (and extra pieces of apparel) later, we landed back in Antigua.
On the walk home, we stopped at the best and least expensive bakery we have found this stay and loaded up on some carb treats. We then promptly climbed into the shade and cool of our apartment for the rest of the day, poking our head out once to walk the block and a half to Once Y Once for our last meal there of the trip. While we have three more days in Antigua, they are closed for dinner tomorrow through Wednesday. Some good things must come to an end.
